[Presentation Report] July 24, 2024 Akai Hane Central Community Chest of Japan (CCCJ) "Support Grant Project for Activities Assisting People with Foreign Roots" Research Report Meeting and Symposium

July 24, 2024 Central Community Chest of Japan (CCCJ) "Support Activities Grant Project for People with Foreign Roots" Research Report Meeting & Symposium

OFP was selected for the "Support Grant Project for Activities Assisting People with Foreign Roots," jointly implemented by the Central Community Chest of Japan (CCCJ) and the Mitsubishi Foundation, and has been receiving grants since 2020.

On July 24, 2024, at the research report meeting and symposium held as a review of the grant project, we had the opportunity to introduce OFP as an advanced initiative. At the report meeting, Yang, the director and secretary-general, presented "Support by Local Residents: The Otonari-san Initiative."

We explained the challenges OFP aims to solve and its mechanisms, focusing on the significance and benefits of OFP for both foreign and Japanese residents, as well as participants' real-life experiences. Furthermore, we briefly touched on the background and structure of the new project currently being prepared, the "Spot Otonari-san" initiative.

Finally, the challenges that have emerged from our efforts so far are:
・Diverse channels to deepen mutual understanding between foreign residents and Japanese citizens
・Flexibility of the Support Site
・The need for legal frameworks regarding the stay and settlement of foreigners
We concluded by suggesting options such as these.

After the presentation, there was a group discussion time with the participants.
Many people gathered in the OFP group, allowing us to discuss aspects of OFP's management and its establishment that couldn't be fully covered in the presentation, and we had a lively exchange of ideas.

Since people who participate in many OFP activities as Otonari-san also came to the venue, it was a good opportunity to convey the actual situation of the activities and Otonari-san's own thoughts to the participants.

On the day, the venue had a capacity of 50 people and the online session had a capacity of 100 people, providing a large-scale opportunity for many to learn about JII's activities.

We would like to thank the Central Community Chest of Japan(CCCJ), the Mitsubishi Foundation, and all the donors for providing us with this valuable opportunity.
We will continue to strive to make life easier for people of foreign descent living in Japan.
