Saturday, November 7, 2026 [For Members] Come Together: Brazilian Partner Dance (Forro) Experience & Social Gathering @ Aoyama

This event is one of the "Kono Yubi Tomare" projects primarily planned by members of the Otonari-san Family Friend Program (OFP). (For detailed information about the project, please see here)

The "Kono Yubi Tomare" project turns each OFP member's "likes" and "strengths" into events. This time, we are pleased to invite you to the "Brazilian Pair Dance (Forro) Experience Exchange Meeting," where the organizing member will share the Forró they have enjoyed for many years with everyone.

What is Forro?

Forró is a partner dance that originated in northeastern Brazil, where two people enjoy dancing together to music. It is a dance loved worldwide, with many fans not only in Brazil but also in Europe and America.

This is what we will do

This event is a social gathering where everyone can enjoy the "first steps" of Forró together.
No dance experience is required at all! Even if you feel you lack a sense of rhythm or think you’re not good at dancing, that’s perfectly fine. Nationality, age, and dance experience do not matter. Beginners are very welcome.

  • Enjoy the Music : Listen to the rhythm of Forró and feel it with your body.
  • Gentle instruction on the basic steps: Even if it’s your first time, no worries. We will practice slowly, step by step.
  • Enjoy practicing while changing partners : Dance with various people and naturally interact with each other.
  • Dance Freely Together : In the end, let’s all have fun dancing to the music together.

Would you like to spend time together connected by music and smiles? Even if it’s your first time dancing, please feel free to join us!

Message from the Organizing Committee Member

I have come to Tokyo on a solo work assignment, but my home is in Kakegawa City, Shizuoka Prefecture. Nearby Hamamatsu City has the largest Brazilian population in Japan. At night, they gather and happily enjoy dancing.
About 15 years ago, I was able to join a dance school for Brazilians in Hamamatsu. The school had about 100 people, but I was the only Japanese person. There, I learned a partner dance called Forró for five years.
Even now that I have come to Tokyo, I participate in a Forró group every week. Our dance group often welcomes Forró enthusiasts traveling from abroad, such as from Germany and France; we dance together and sometimes go out for a meal after dancing.
I feel that Forró is an activity where people can naturally interact beyond differences in countries and languages, and simply enjoy Cultural synergy.
